The position is located in the Applied Developmental Neuroscience Research Group (Head: Prof. Dr. med. Stefan Ehrlich, PhD). The group focuses mainly on eating disorders and affective disorders, in close collaboration with the partner departments at the Center for Mental Health. A broad, multi-methodological approach is pursued, which includes in particular imaging procedures (MRI, fMRI, MRS), experimental and cognitive psychology, psychophysiology (eye-tracking), immunology and endocrinology methods as well as digital phenotyping (including ecological momentary assessment). The main objective is translational research, which aims to transfer research results as quickly as possible to improve diagnostics and therapy.
The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team of young researchers and clinicians that
has been carrying out various neuroscience projects since 2010. Further information can be found here

The focus of the advertised position is the investigation of the interactions of cognitive, endocrine and immunological mechanisms for mental health - in particular for reward behavior (e.g. effort-/ valuebased mechanisms) and depressive symptoms. Possible further research projects could include emotion regulation and its neuronal correlates (fMRI) in affective disorders and eating disorders.
The research group is also involved in the International Research Training Group "Risks and Pathomechanisms of Affective Disorders" (IRTG 2773). This IRTG is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is a structured international graduate program established as a cooperation between the Technische Universität (TU) Dresden and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King's College London. Comprehensive project supervision by scientific experts (doctoral committee) is guaranteed, including participation in a wellstructured curriculum. This includes behavioral and developmental neuroscience, child, adolescent and adult psychiatry, clinical and cognitive psychology, psychoneuroendocrinology, genetics/genomics, computational science as well as key skills such as data management and presentation skills. There is the possibility of an integrated stay abroad and further academic training culminating in a PhD.
Your work also will include the guidance and supervision of research interns, student assistants and medical students within the project. The results will be presented at international conferences and published in scientific journals.
Requirements:
- an aboveaverage degree in psychology, cognitive and/or affective neuroscience, psychiatry or a related field
- previous experience in research activities within the past years (e.g. publications as first or co-author)
- previous exposure to neurosciences/neurobiology and experience in the analysis of imaging data (e.g. FSL, SPM, FreeSurfer), in computational modeling as well as basic knowledge of computer programming (e.g. Linux/Unix shell scripting, Python or MATLAB) are of advantage but not a pre-condition
- keen interest in mental disorders
- strong organizational skills
- very good command of German in order to communicate with non-scientific staff members, patients and students
- very good command of English (C1)
