Feto/neonatal Development

Project Content:

Better understanding of fetal organ development under intra- and extra-uterine conditions. Long term development is determined by organ development during the fetal period. However, fetal organ development can be disturbed intra-uterine, mainly due to maternal diseases, or during extra-uterine life of prematurely born infants. The group studies physiological organ development during intrauterine life and the impact of extra-uterine conditions on the fetal organ development. A tissue bank of various organs obtained from a unique extreme preterm baboon model was established (UTHSCSA, OHRI) in order to assess the impact of extreme preterm birth on physiology (UTHSCSA, KCL), histology (morphometry by stereology, MHH), transcriptome and proteome (CMCB) using unbiased methods.
