ERCD Neurocognition Group Participates in the 40th Annual DGPP Meeting in Berlin
Group Leader Dr. Anja Hahne presented a plenary lecture on speech development in children with cochlear implants (CIs). She discussed how reduced auditory input and initial sensory deprivation lead to specific differences in language acquisition compared to children with normal hearing. Dr. Hahne had the honor of presenting following Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Angela Friederici, renowned director of the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences, who provided an overview of her three decades of research on children's language development.
Dr. Niki Vavatzanidis shared data on vocabulary acquisition in children with CIs, highlighting key aspects of how these children develop their language skills. Christina Wegewitz presented findings on speech understanding in noisy environments among adult CI users, addressing a significant challenge faced by this population and a key focus area for the ERCD. Lena Heine also contributed with a poster presentation on prosodic-syntactic processing in primary school children with normal hearing.
The ERCD Neurocognition group’s contributions at the DGPP meeting reflect their ongoing dedication to enhancing communication outcomes for individuals with cochlear implants and advancing the understanding of language development in diverse auditory contexts.
