New compendium MRI safety of cochlear implants, middle ear and bone conduction implants released

Patients with cochlear implants (CI) or other active hearing systems are often at a disadvantage when looking for appointments for MRI examinations. Practices often refer these cases to university centres, even though the latest generations of implants are MRI compatible. However, the variety of implants (both current and those used in the last 25 years) and their MRI approvals make it difficult for medical professionals in radiology to assess whether a necessary MRI examination may be performed. For this reason, the ORL HNS University Clinic and the Institute of Radiology at the University Medical Centre Dresden have compiled a compendium for patients and medical professionals (ENT, radiology, general medicine) that provides information on the MRI suitability of the current implantable hearing systems.
