Histologic and radiographic investigations of bone defect obliteration with Bioactive Glass
ERCD researchers investigated the effect of bioactive glas S53P4 (BonAlive®) and autologous bone dust for obliteration of noncritical size bone defects, such as mastoid cavities. In cases of poor bone quality or a lack of enough patient’s material bone, replacement materials are of great use. The present study shows the advantages and disadvantages of both materials. Properly harvested bone dust holds vital bone cells for active regeneration of the defect – a process that takes weeks to month. In contrast bioactive glass S53P4 immediately provides a complete and volume stable obliteration with osteostimulatory effects.
