International Tympanoplasty Course Dresden 2021

The 40th Advanced Course of Tympanoplasty was held at the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery on the 6th of May, 2021.

More than 1200 participants from 78 countries registered for the course to learn about advanced methods for reconstruction of the middle ear. From 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., eight thematically organized excellent lectures contributed by leading international experts were made available to the participants. Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Thomas Zahnert, Chair of the ENT Clinic of the University Medical Center Dresden led through the course program and moderated the individual topic blocks as well as the discussion between the participants and experts. The course organization was supported by Heinz Kurz Medizintechnik.

The surgical courses at the University Medical Center Dresden look back on a long tradition. In  1993, the first International Course on Middle Ear Reconstruction was held here. A special feature of the course were the practical experiments and preparation exercises with acoustic feedback, which allowed the course participants to directly experience for themselves the quality of hearing improvement.

While the course could not be attended in person this year due to the current pandemic, the first virtual and exclusively online course was a complete success: "The surgical expertise of the ENT Clinic is in demand worldwide and underlines the leading international importance of the University Medical Center Dresden," said director Prof. Dr. Dr. Zahnert.
